lack of job opportunities for Goan youths in the Kadamba Transport Corporation
Panaji, :- strong appeal to the state.. government, Advocate Shailesh Gawas Social Worker has voiced concerns over the lack of job opportunities for Goan youths in the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited Goa (KTC).
Speaking on behalf of local residents, Gawas emphasized that the state-run public transport entity should prioritize employment for Goans, especially at a time when unemployment rates in the state are concerning.
Kadamba Transport Corporation, established to provide efficient and affordable public transport across Goa, has witnessed significant growth, including the addition of electric buses. However, despite this expansion, local youth allege they are being overlooked for employment in favor of non-Goans.
“Goan youth are qualified, eager, and capable. It is disheartening to see that our own people are being denied opportunities in their own land,” stated Adv. Gawas. He urged Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to take immediate action to ensure recruitment policies favor Goan applicants.
The demand is not new. Over the years, several local leaders and civil society organizations have raised concerns about the shrinking job market for locals. With KTC being a government-funded entity, Gawas argues that it is the state’s responsibility to ensure Goans benefit from public sector employment.
The issue has gained traction across the state, especially on social media, where many have echoed similar sentiments. Residents argue that employment in government agencies like KTC can provide much-needed economic stability to Goan families.
Adv. Gawas has called for transparency in the hiring process and suggested the introduction of a reservation or quota system for Goan candidates. He believes such a measure would not only boost local employment but also instill trust in government institutions.
As pressure mounts, the ball is now in the government’s court to address this long-standing demand and take decisive steps to protect the interests of Goan youths.
