Five Arrested in 24 Lakh rs Dacoity Case at marra- Pilerne
Shabd media :– According to SP North Goa, Rahul Gupta, IPS, on March 17 at around 3:30 AM, five armed assailants forcibly broke into the rented room of Pappu Biswas at Marra-Pilerne using an iron rod to break the latch. The accused then held Biswas and his wife at knifepoint and looted gold ornaments worth ₹15 lakh and cash amounting to ₹9 lakh, totaling ₹24 lakh.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under sections 310(2) and 127 of BNSS, 2023, and multiple police teams were formed to track down the culprits.
Investigation & Arrests
Using technical evidence and CCTV footage, police successfully identified and apprehended the accused. Investigations revealed that Joyce D’Souza, a neighbor of the complainant, had knowledge of the valuables in the house and planned the dacoity along with her associates Krishna Belgaonkar and Kalpana Barki.
Krishna Belgaonkar arranged for additional accused, while Kalpana Barki and Imran Shaikh arranged a vehicle for the crime.
After committing the crime, the stolen gold and cash were distributed among the accused at a hotel in Calangute.
Criminal Records of Accused
Joyce D’Souza was previously involved in a case registered at Porvorim Police Station (FIR No. 10/2019) under various IPC sections and the ITP Act.
Krishna Belgaonkar was involved in a murder case at Calangute Police Station in 2018 and is currently out on bail.
Kalpana Barki was accused of murdering her husband in 2018 and was booked under Curchorem PS Cr. No. 302, 201, R/w 120-B IPC.
Recovery & Further Investigation
Police have recovered part of the stolen property, the knife used in the crime, the iron rod used to break the door, and the vehicle involved. Further recovery efforts are ongoing.
The investigation team was led by SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and included PI Porvorim PS, PSI Mandar Parab, PSI Sitaram Malik, LPSI Prajoti Dessai, PSI Pratik Tulaskar, PSI Akash Chodankar, PSI Arun Shirodkar, PSI Sachin Shirodkar, and several other officers.
The accused remain in police custody, and further investigation is in progress.
