Yuri Alemao Exposes BJP Government’s ₹8,000 Crore Green Cess Scam in Goa Assembly
Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao launched a scathing attack on the BJP government during the Question Hour in the Goa Assembly’s winter session, exposing a massive scam in the collection of Green Cess. He accused the government of favoring big corporate players while causing huge losses to the state exchequer.
Alemao revealed that under the Goa Green Cess Act, the total tax demanded was ₹352.20 crore, but only ₹237.70 crore was collected. Of this, petroleum companies contributed a significant ₹190 crore, while the coal and coke industry paid a mere ₹47 crore. Questioning the government’s inaction, Alemao asked, “Why is the BJP government slow in collecting taxes from the coal and coke industry?”
Mega ₹8,000 Crore Green Cess Fraud
The Opposition Leader further alleged that the BJP government deliberately reduced the Green Cess from 2% to just 0.5%, causing a loss of thousands of crores to the state. He claimed that the government failed to issue demand notices and collect dues from major corporations like Adani, leading to a ₹8,000 crore scam.
“This government works for crony capitalists, not for the common man. The reduction in Green Cess is a clear case of corruption and favoritism,” Alemao said, demanding strict action against those responsible for the revenue loss.
He urged the government to take immediate steps to recover pending Green Cess dues and ensure transparency in taxation policies. The revelations have sparked widespread outrage, with demands for an independent investigation into the alleged scam.
