MLA Michael Lobo Warns of Declining Foreign Tourism in Goa, Calls for Urgent Action

Calangute : Expressing deep concern over the sharp decline in foreign tourist arrivals, MLA Michael Lobo has sounded an alarm, attributing the downturn to poor beach maintenance, inadequate cab services, and an increasing stray dog menace. He has urged the state government to convene a joint meeting with all stakeholders to address these pressing issues and implement measures to revive Goa’s tourism sector.

“The decline in foreign tourism is a wake-up call for us,” Lobo stated. “We must take immediate action to tackle the challenges affecting our tourism industry. Waiting any longer will only worsen the situation.”

Lobo highlighted several critical concerns, including Goa’s carrying capacity, the regulation of rent-a-car services, the need to showcase Goan culture, law and order issues, beggar rehabilitation, and the formation of a dedicated coordination committee to streamline tourism-related initiatives.

“The state government must take proactive steps,” he emphasized. “We need to work together with stakeholders to find long-term solutions and restore Goa’s appeal as a top-tier global destination.”

Additionally, Lobo drew attention to the unsightly and hazardous internet wires hanging from poles in tourist areas, urging private businesses to remove them for safety and aesthetic reasons. “Clean, safe, and visually appealing surroundings are crucial for enhancing the tourist experience,” he added.

The proposed meeting will bring together government officials, tourism industry representatives, and local leaders to discuss a comprehensive action plan.
